Effective employee communications

Introduction
British Transport Police (BTP) is the United Kingdom’s Police Force for the railways. The Force also polices
the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway
and the Midland Metro Tram system. Between them, these rail businesses move some 5 million people every day. BTP numbers over 2,200 Police Officers and over 700 Support Staff. The Force is divided into seven territorial areas across the length and breadth of the UK.

BTP approached O’Connor HR Partner following the
high-profile case of the Soham murders and resultant criticism of the failings of the Police National Computer (PNC) system. Police Constabularies and their staff across the UK were heavily criticised for not keeping PNC records up-to-date.

BTP was determined that its entire staff should be made aware of the vital importance of the PNC and asked O’Connor to provide them with a means of communicating this message to its employees.

We created a hard-hitting poster campaign and supported this with screensavers for use on all BTP computers. The campaign was hugely successful - so much so that we now provide BTP with posters and screensavers on an ongoing basis, both to promote other important messages and regular reminder campaigns about the crucial PNC issue.

And, what does British Transport Police think of our work?

‘Good doing business with you, you’ve been great.’ DC Mike Evans, Field Intelligence Officer (Robbery)

‘Just keeps getting better!!’ Tom Walsworth, Marketing Manager
